Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a well-established, evidence-based form of manual therapy that focuses on the musculo-skeletal system, to restore function and reduce pain. Osteopaths are trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general healthcare diagnosis and osteopathic techniques.

At healthmatters osteopathy we will look at your whole body to manage your pain or injury, not just the painful area; we recognise that for your body to function correctly, each part must be free of dysfunction. This holistic method can help with chronic, complex, and long-term conditions, as well as acute sprains, strains, and sports injuries. Osteopaths develop personalised treatment and management plans to support you in managing pain and injuries throughout your life, encouraging active living and healthy aging.

Osteopaths blend traditional and modern healthcare approaches, focusing on gentle, non-invasive therapies to support your body's natural healing. Utilising techniques such as soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisation, manipulation, and dry needling, combined with valuable education and specific exercises, your osteopath will work to reduce muscle tightness, alleviate joint restrictions, and strengthen weak muscles.

Dry needling

Dry needling technique may be used as part of your treatment. This is a skilled intervention involving the insertion of a thin needle to stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular and connective tissue with the aim being to manage and relieve musculo-skeletal pain. It can be effective for chronic myofascial pain and can be used for treating dysfunctions in the body, to restore impairments of body structure and function leading to improved movement. Dry needling may have an analgesic (pain relief) effect, and a local effect on increased blood flow and stimulation of the body’s natural response to injury.
